On AI Slop
I take full responsibility if any of these posts get labeled as AI slop. Genuinely, I’m not entirely sure myself where the line falls.
I’ve tried, as much as possible, to cite my sources. But I work with roughly ten different large language models, and more than once they’ve surfaced references I was unaware of and had never read. If any of this amounts to inadvertent borrowing from something I never credited, I apologize in advance.
I’m also not sure how much responsibility belongs to the LLM providers themselves. I keep asking myself: how is it that a model can produce so much verbiage out of so small a seed? Did it absorb the whole of One Hundred Years of Solitude somewhere in training, or are the truths it’s reaching for so common and well-worn that even a machine arrives at the same place? The jury is still out. Mea culpa, and apologies for the inconvenience.
